I just found this blog during a search for information to help my bipolar husband reduce his child support order. His ex wife is fighting him in court to keep him paying an amount of child support that if he were to keep paying, we would lose our home because we can't pay our bills. This support amount is based on a high paying job he had before his illness got really bad. Now he is unstable and highly medicated and finds it difficult to hold a job. His doctor and therapists have provided documentation that he is ill and cannot hold a full time job. But the courts here (New Jersey, USA) do not recognize his disability as an excuse for underemployment, refuse to reduce the support, and keep adding his ex's legal fees to his arrearage. If he doesn't pay some exhorbitant sum in 45 days (it is more than he earns in that time) he will go to jail. We do not know where to turn. I have been searching all over the internet for information that will lead to someone who can help us.
