I read your post...get a second opinion, it took me almost 2 decades to finally be diagnosed with bipolar and I've been diagnosed now for a decade...but sometimes there are other things that can seem like bipolar (for example, borderline personality disorder or other personality disorders, depression, hormone or other physical problems, ADD, ADHD, etc).
If I were you I would definitely get a second opinion.

If there is a test that can determine one of the (many possible) genes implicated in bipolar disorder, and you do not have it, would that prove that you do not have the disorder? Or is the absence of that gene not enough to show that you dont have bipolar, even though the presence of it is enough to prove that you do? Sorry if that is dumb logic!
I was diagnosed after I got custody of my kids, and my ex does not know about the diagnosis - I thank God it happened that way round, else I could so easily be in your position.
We are not bad mothers. Yes, sometimes we get it wrong, (doesn't everyone?) but we ALWAYS do our best - not everyone can say that.
I wish you all the best, for you and your children.
