Employment

There are many employment issues which arise when someone has been diagnosed with Bipolar or other mental health problems. Not only are there the practical issues of working whilst taking medication, but there are the profound discrimination issues which have to be overcome. This site looks at the following:

  • disability discrimination – research and cases
  • your rights to protection from discrimination through the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (UK) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (US)
  • practical advice on how your employer can make “reasonable adjustments” to the workplace in order to supportĀ those workers with mental health conditions
  • employment rights eg unfair dismissal claims, redundancy, harassment, stress in the workplace
  • evidential issues in employment cases including expert evidence.

I am an expert in flexible working issues and am a qualified employment lawyer. I have over 9 years of management consultancy experience in flexible working having worked with many large and small companies both within the private sector and the public sector as well as with many individuals who have experienced a range of employment problems.

Drawing on this experience, I can provide advice and help on how to manage to work whilst coping with a mental health condition as well as advising employers on how to manage employees who are suffering with mental health issues.

I have been an expert witness in Tribunal cases as well as acted for clients in employment tribunal hearings.

I am a regular speaking on flexible working issues and implementing the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act and have published several articles.
